Sundance

Well, it took me a week to figure out how to upload my sister Chris’s wonderful pictures into the blog.  But, finally we are back.

I have been at Sundance seeing some amazing films.  I particularly loved the doc, A SMALL ACT about an impoverished Kenyan boy who becomes a Human rights Lawyer at the UN thanks to a scholarship sent by a Swedish schoolteacher when he was a boy.  The film explores how this one act of kindness transformed this man’s life, his village and the life of as well  the  donor, some  thirty years later.

I then watched several wonderful narratives including THE COMPANY MEN– beautifully nuanced story of losing one’s job in Corporate America during the economic downturn.  The cast is marvelous:  Ben Affleck, Tommy Lee Jones,  Kevin Costner, and Chris Cooper.  ANIMAL KINGDOM  is an Australian film set in Melbourne–first time writer and Director David Michod, does a stunning job of bringing us into a world of Josh–a young man whose mother dies of a heroin overdose, who reconnects with his estranged family–who are heavily involved in armed robbery and drug sales.  Josh navigates this underworld with a stunned innocence that is deeply engaging.  Another good one is JACK GOES BOATING, with Phillip Seymour Hoffman in his directorial debut.

I’ve been here with my family and we’ve had such a wonderful time!  I am so so so lucky to have all these people in my life!

We have also gotten to meet Dr. Muhammad Yunus, 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner with his micro economics project. The Movie that was done about this is called ‘To Catch a Dollar.” What a fun week.
